Still having language barriers

After being in Spanish for over two years i was feeling pretty confident in my spanish speaking skills. But after i traveled to Mexico over this past summer I realized that there is still a major language barier when it comes to me being able to talk to people who only know how to speak spanish. I did pretty good for the most part at being able to breakdown what they said to me and piecing together a sentence but when they start to talk really fast because they are excited you are american who knows spanish then I got super lost and had to ask them to slow down. so what I learned from this is that even with over two years of spanish under my belt there are still a lot of hings that I need to learn yet. But it was a great experience and I learned a lot for the time that I was there.
