Mexicans in Wal-mart

A couple weeks back Madi and I went to Wal-mart after a Dairy Quiz Bowl practice to get my nails for prom. As we were walking back to get them we walked past a group of Mexican workers who looked like they were taking a break. As we walked past we could hear that they were talking very fast Spanish. Because we were in a hurry we didn't take the time to slow down and try to understand what they were saying. When we walked by they didn't seam like the friendly Mexicans in Mexico though, because they stared at us with what seamed to be an "evil eye." Which made me think of how different it was to see Mexicans in America than Mexicans in Mexico. Maybe they just had a long day at work but they seamed to not be as nice as they are in Mexico like I experienced  this summer.

Carolina Virguez

I recently watched Breaking Dawn Part 1, and there is a scene when Edward and Bella are on Isle Esme.  They just found out that Bella is expecting a "Vampire baby."  Carolina Virguez is the actress who plays the maid who knows something is up with Bella and Edward.  She expresses concern for Bella when her suspicions are proven to be true.   She lives in Rio, in the movie, and they have legends, that say how to rid of this monster.  In the movie, Carolina, who plays Kaure, only knows how to speak Spanish.  Even though the words she says are translated, I recognized some of the words which was exciting.  I couldn't believe that I could follow what she was saying!

Carolina isn't a very famous actor.  This was her most famous movie.  I found out that Carolina is a Colombian and a Brazilian actress with several awards.  She has also recieved nominations, which is something she can be pround of.

Even though she was in a small portion of the movie, I liked that I was able to understand, it shows me that I can understand Spanish outside of class!

Shopping- Dora Kracke

Me and my family went shopping at the mall in Cedar Rapids. While shopping in the mall there were was a hispanic family that was walking behind us. They were speaking spanish to each other and I knew what some of the things they were saying to each other, but then sometimes they were talking way to fast that I could not understand what they were talking about. After we were done shopping in the mall we went to Carlos O'Kellys, my favorite part of eating there was that they give you salsa and chips while you are waiting for your food to come. That helps you understand what it is like eating at a Mexican restaurant. There are a verity of things that are different from American and Mexican restaurants, and Carlos O'Kellys helps you understand some of the different things that Mexican restaurants have compared to American restaurants.

Antonio Banderas

While watching Shrek 2 last week with my family, I couldn't help but to fall in love with Puss in Boots.  His cleverness, humor, and of course, his accent, were all things I couldn't resist. I couldn't help but to want to know more about the character. I discovered that the voice behind those heartmelting eyes are none other than Antonio Banderas.
The actor was born as Jose Antonio Domínguez Banderas August 10, 1960, in Malaga, Andalusia, Spain. Banderas always had the dream of playing professional soccer. He played as a child and was determined to accomplish his goal until he broke his foot at the age of 14. It was then that his passion of theatre began to grow. He attended the School of Dramatic Art in Andalusia.
At the age of 19, he moved to Madrid, Spain to pursue his acting career. He joined a troupe known as the National Theatre of Spain and starred in several well known movies.  In 1992, Bandares moved to Hollywood and made his American debut.  Since then, he has starred in many popular movies such as The Mask of Zorro.
Along with his acting career, Bandares has been recognized by People magazine as one of the top 50 most beautiful people in the world. He remains an avid soccer fan and is a supporter of the Real Madrid Football Club.  He has been married to actress Melanie Griffith since 1996 and they have had one daughter.  The Bandares family owns two houses; one in America and one in southern Spain.

Francia Raisa

Secret Teen is worldwide TV show that has people talking. It shows every Monday night at 7 on ABC Family. This show is very suspenseful and it is very interesting. One of my favorite characters is Adrian. Her real name is Francia Raisa. She was born on July 26, 1988 and she was raised in Southern California. When Francia was five she took dance lessons and she also took karate and ice skating lessons.
When Francia was a junior in high school she started booking acting jobs. She modeled in ads, she also starred in commericials, and starred in some sitcoms. A movie that Francia starred in was Bring it On: All or Nothing. This is what got her the role in Secret Life. She became a trendmendous actor and she is becoming even more talented. She came from a background of fame. Her dad was very fortunate and she should be thankful.
Watch Secret Teen to see Francia in action. She is a very talented actress and you will understand why if you watch the show. Also in the show she does speak some spanish and she speaks it very fast. It sounds so cool and its interesting to listen to it to see if I know what she is talking about. I have a strong feeling that later down the road she will be very famous and everyone will know who she is.

Fareway

One day I was working at Fareway when some spanish speaking people came up to the checkout next to mine. They wanted to buy something but we had to check their ID to make sure of their age. So the checker next to me asked them for their ID and they showed it to her. Their license doesn't look the same as ours and so she asked them for their age. He told her his age and birthday but he said it in spanish so she didn't quite understand him. So I went over to help her. I looked at his license and it said EDAD: 25. I felt like I actually knew something because I knew 'edad' was the word for 'age' :). So by using my simple spanish skills I was able to help out at work and make sure he was legal to buy his item. So it was a success :) :).

George Lopez

George Lopez was born on April 23, 1961 in Mission Hills, California. To say that George Lopez had a great childhood would be lying. At the age of two, George's father left him and his mother. Then, when George was around 10, his grandmother, Benita Gutierrez, began to raise him, as his mother abandoned him to be with her new husband. While George was growing up, his mother always told him that his father had died when he (George) was two, and did not leave the family. Later in life, George's mother revealed the truth that his father had in fact not died, but that he abandoned the family. George's rough childhood was and still is, the inspiration and butt of most of his jokes. It is what shaped his life as a comedian.
George's first jobs were doing stand-up comedy. At first, he wasn't the best. After working at various other jobs, George realized that comedy is what he wanted to do, so he returned to stand-up and became very good at it. He appeared in some minor films, but his most famous piece of work, was his involvement in his own television show, "George Lopez." Lopez was an actor in the show, and helped to create it. "George Lopez" ran from 2002-2007. Since then, Lopez created "Lopez Tonight" and did a voice over in the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Lopez married Ann Serrano in 1993. They had one daughter, Mayan Lopez, in 1995. However, they share more than just a daughter. George Lopez received a kidney transplant from his wife, Ann, in 2005. On June 1, 2011, Lopez and Serrano divorced. Considering where Lopez came from, I consider him to be an amazing actor and comedian. His childhood was rough, but instead of feeling sorry for himself, he used his hardships to make other people laugh. "George Lopez" is one of my favorite shows. George is extremely funny, and along with his mom, Bennie, and wife, Angie, the show is great. Watch TBS to catch re-runs of this awesome show!
